What is a Manual Chiropractic Adjustment and is it Safe?
If you’re dealing with back pain, stiffness, or limited mobility, it can feel like your body is working against you. Simple tasks become difficult, and discomfort lingers no matter what you do. At Enumclaw Family Chiropractic, we understand how frustrating this can be and are here to help.
A manual chiropractic adjustment, also known as chiropractic spinal manipulation, is a trusted, hands-on technique designed to restore spinal alignment, relieve tension, and improve movement. By applying controlled pressure to specific joints, our chiropractors can reduce pain, increase flexibility, and support your body’s natural healing ability.
Through spinal manipulation therapy, we address the root cause of discomfort—misalignment, muscle tension, or nerve interference—so you can experience long-lasting relief and better mobility.
Is Spinal Manipulation Safe?
Spinal manipulation is a safe, non-invasive, and highly effective treatment when performed by a licensed and trained chiropractor. Some patients may experience mild soreness after an adjustment, similar to post-workout muscle relief, but this is temporary and often a sign that your body is adapting to its improved alignment.
At Enumclaw Family Chiropractic, we take a personalized approach to every adjustment. Whether you need gentle spinal manipulation therapy or a more precise chiropractic spinal manipulation technique, we tailor our care to meet your needs—helping you move better, feel more substantial, and live pain-free.

The Life-Changing Benefits of Spinal Manipulation
At Enumclaw Family Chiropractic, we understand how frustrating it is to live with chronic pain, stiffness, or restricted movement. That’s why we offer spinal manipulation therapy, a proven chiropractic technique that helps restore balance, relieve discomfort, and improve mobility—so you can get back to living life to the fullest. Some of the benefits we typically see with at our Enumclaw office are:
1. Natural Pain Relief
Misaligned joints put pressure on nerves and muscles, leading to persistent back, neck, and joint pain. Chiropractic spinal manipulation corrects these misalignments, reducing pain without the need for medication or invasive procedures.
2. Reduced Muscle Tension & Inflammation
Tension and inflammation in the muscles often result from spinal misalignments. Gentle spinal manipulation releases tension, improves blood circulation, and supports your body’s natural healing process—leading to less discomfort and faster recovery.
3. Better Posture & Spinal Health
Poor posture can contribute to chronic pain, headaches, and long-term spinal issues. Regular chiropractic spinal manipulation helps realign your spine, reducing strain on your muscles and joints for improved posture and overall wellness.
4. Enhanced Nervous System Function
Your spine is directly connected to your nervous system. When the spine is misaligned, it can disrupt nerve function, leading to fatigue, stress, and reduced overall health. Spinal manipulation therapy supports better nerve communication, helping you feel more energized and balanced.
5. A Holistic Approach to Wellness
Unlike temporary pain relief methods, spinal manipulation therapy addresses the root cause of discomfort, providing long-term health benefits. Whether you’re recovering from an injury or looking to maintain optimal spinal health, our approach is designed to keep your body functioning at its best.
Strengthens your immune system
Chiropractic care has been associated with improved immune system function. A study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that chiropractic adjustments can influence the nervous system, which in turn affects immune function. When the nervous system is optimized, it better coordinates the immune responses, helping the body fend off sickness and disease more effectively.

Improves your joint mobility, functionality and health in general
Manual chiropractic adjustments are widely recognized for improving joint mobility and overall functionality. Research published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine demonstrated that chiropractic care helps increase joint range of motion, reduces joint restrictions, and enhances overall joint health. This can lead to a more active lifestyle, allowing you to enjoy activities without the limitations of pain or restricted movement.
Reduces pain by decreasing inflammation and unlocking restricted joints
One of the most common reasons people seek chiropractic care is to alleviate pain. Studies have shown that chiropractic adjustments can reduce inflammation and relieve pressure on restricted joints, leading to pain reduction.
A review in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that chiropractic care is effective in treating conditions like lower back pain, which often involves inflammation and joint restrictions. This reduction in pain allows for greater participation in physical activities, from sports to everyday family interactions.

Enumclaw Family Chiropractic's Manual Chiropractic Adjustment Process
Manual adjusting allows our chiropractors to restore your range of motion. Controlled, quick pressure to joints, push them beyond their restricted range of motion. Rather than a "one adjustment fits all approach", our chiropractors are able to assess what adjustments your body needs. This helps to correct misalignments or other problems specific to your body.
Evaluation & physical exam
A session begins with evaluating your concerns and or symptoms. This is done so we can find the treatment that best fits your needs.
Choosing a customized treatment
Depending on the symptoms and your scenario, we then discuss what adjustment will work best for your needs and your daily life.
Treatment session begins
Most of our patients choose to lay on one of our massage traction tables which helps loosen the muscles before the adjustment.
Final massage
A massage is sometimes given with a vibracussor to massage the muscles for a minute or two. This massage sort of “fine tunes” the adjustment.
